Civil space activities in Japan are coordinated by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), which is funded primarily through the Ministry for Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). In FY 2015, which in Japan runs from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, JAXA received ## billion yen (US$## billion), ## million yen (US$## million) less than its ## billion yen (US$## billion) budget in FY 2014 for space and aeronautics activities.
